  • Lower Cynon Valley Mass Testing Message from RCT

    Tue 08 Dec 2020
    Dear parent/guardian,

As you may be aware, the COVID-19 mass testing pilot has recently been extended to cover the lower Cynon Valley area, which has seen some of the highest case rates in Wales. The pilot is available to anyone over the age of 11 who lives, works, or studies in the electoral wards of Abercynon, Penrhiwceiber, Mt. Ash East & West, or Aberaman South, and does NOT have symptoms of COVID-19 or is currently not self-isolating.

An estimated 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 will not have any symptoms, and it is vital that we are able to identify and isolate those who do not have symptoms in our communities to stop the chains of transmission and protect our family, friends and community.

We are therefore urging all of those meeting the criteria above to get a test at your nearest Mass Testing Centre (currently the Cynon Valley Indoor Bowls Club or Abercynon Sports Centre). The Centres are open 7 days a week from 9am to 7pm, with the last queuing space at 6:30pm. There is no need to book and the process is quick and painless. Please get a test and play your part in keeping your friends and family safe.

As places are restricted, please only apply if your child requires
access to a free, healthy breakfast before the start of the school day.

  • Covid 19 Message from Andrew Morgan, Leader of the Council

    Fri 16 Oct 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians

As a Council, we recognise this is an anxious time for our communities with the continuing of restrictions on daily life and increasing rates of Covid-19 again throughout RCT. We are respectfully asking and reminding parents/guardians to help minimise the transmission of coronavirus at every opportunity, including by continuing to observe social distancing outside school grounds and by wearing a face mask if possible, in line with the Council’s advice to residents issued on Thursday, Sept 10th.

Whilst we do recognise that it is important that children are able to socialise responsibly and outdoor activity is vital for their wellbeing, we are urging all parents and guardians to please be mindful of where your children are, who they are with and what they are doing when outside of school, particularly in evenings and on weekends.  Restricting the number of social contacts, maintaining social distancing and promoting effective hygiene are essential to reducing the risk of transmission.

You will be aware that there has been a significant increase in positive cases across Wales and Rhondda Cynon Taf over recent weeks and each and every one of us needs to play our part in minimising the spread of coronavirus in our communities. Please take extra care and stay safe.

    Councillor Andrew Morgan

    Leader RCT Council

  • Reading Books

    Mon 28 Sep 2020
We will be sending reading books home with all the children this evening. Please try to read with you child every evening as it will really help them make good progress. Please return all books to school on Friday so that they can be left for 72 hours before we change them over. We would also be very grateful if you could return their reading diaries. Many thanks for your support
  • Covid 19 Message from Andrew Morgan, Leader of the Council

    Thu 17 Sep 2020

On behalf of Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

Due to the significant increase and spread of Covid-19 in RCT, from tonight, the new enhanced measures introduced by the Welsh Government will come into effect across RCT. To help minimise any possible transmission, please observe social distancing outside of the school grounds and wear a face mask if possible, in line with the Council’s advice to residents issued on Thursday, Sept 10th. If your children are out playing during the evenings or weekends, please be mindful of who they are with and what they are doing.  Restricting the number of social contacts, maintaining social distancing and promoting effective hygiene are essential to reducing the risk of transmission.  The next review of the Welsh Government restrictions will be in 2 weeks’ time and, if we are to see these measures reduced or even removed, then we all need to play our part in minimising the spread of coronavirus in our communities and keeping everyone safe.
