Additional Learning Needs

Meeting pupils’ additional needs is firmly at the heart of our practice. Pupils with additional needs are entitled to early identification and support. This is achieved through organisation of teaching and learning in the classroom, reinforcement with parental support or through involvement where applicable of other agencies such as language support or the local authority’s access and inclusion service. We have an Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinators (ALNCos) and a Family Engagement Officer (FEO) who work alongside all agencies involved to ensure the best possible provision is provided for the children. Registers are kept of children identified as having additional learning needs in line with the Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of special needs. Pupil’s progress is monitored by the ALNCo in consultation with class teachers, parents and any additional agencies involved. Every effort is made to review the progress of pupils on the additional learning needs registers with parents, twice per year.

At Glenboi we recognise that we have More Able and Talented children. Individual children are encouraged to develop their attributes, skills and potential within a learning environment that embraces equality of opportunity and provision. Abilities and talents will emerge in a wide range of subjects and fields, it is important to develop the whole child

Disability and Accessibility

We have a policy for accessibility which outlines the school’s approach to ensuring that pupils and adults with disabilities have equal access to the schools facilities, curriculum, day to day activities and leaning experiences.

Information relating to Additional Learning Needs Education Tribunal Act (ALNET)

The Welsh Government aims to transform the expectations, experiences and outcomes for children and young people with additional learning needs.

To do so, they have developed the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) ACT, which will transform the separate systems for Special Educational Needs (SEN) in schools and learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD) in further education, to create a unified system for supporting learners from 0 to 25 with ALN.
